In loving memory of Karl Suggs
For so many players, Mr. Money Bags is a familiar face and a favorite game. Behind that face was Karl Suggs: an Oklahoma musician, entertainer, and a man whose presence reached far beyond the screen. We remember Karl with gratitude and affection.
The person we remember
A whole life beyond the character
Karl’s story held more than one stage. In 2007, Union Public Schools introduced him to its community as a safety coordinator and attendance officer who helped keep children safe during the day. On nights and weekends, he sang lead vocals with his band, Sundog. The district also recounted his years in music and his performances with Leon Russell and J. J. Cale.
That glimpse of Karl matters to us. The person players came to know through a beloved game had already spent years making music, working with others, and bringing his talents into the world.

A familiar face
The inspiration behind Mr. Money Bags
Oklahoma’s OKPOP Radio Hour described Karl as the inspiration for the Mr. Moneybags character on VGT machines. Over the years, that face became part of the memories people made on casino floors: the familiar artwork, the anticipation of a red screen, and the stories players still tell one another.
Karl met players in person, too. Remembering him, Comanche Cache Casino wrote about the energy and laughter he brought to its slot tournaments. It is a reminder that the connection people felt was with a real human being, as well as the character they recognized on a cabinet.
